Alright, we sent him some bats over the weekend and Manny loved them. He hit the homer last night but we can't tell from the photos what brand he's swinging. He hasn't answered his phone either. So does anyone have a better "view" as to what type bat he was swinging?

I've checked Getty and a few other places but the photos don't show any of the logos.

I believe it was an all black X-bat. He has been using so many different models recently.

Brian,

Here's a screen cap showing the barrel of Manny's bat for you from last nights game.

Hard to tell but I think that's an SSK with the logo covered in pine tar. Same as he was using last week. In his next at bat, I think he used a fresh bat (not much tar) probably so he could retire (sell) the 499 bat...

Thanks guys, couldn't tell last night. It's going to be interesting to see if he when he does hit 500. He's under contract with us and he gets a very nice bonus from us for hitting 500. I wonder if he'll try to collect?

BMH, Did Thome get a big bonus for his 500 ? I believe his bat was an M356 ...

Brian -

I am rooting for him to pull out an old tar-covered M9 to hit 500! He always goes back to the M9's eventually...

But given that he admits he doesn't even know the pitch count half the time, he may have forgotten the incentive to use the right bat. On the other hand, he has played the player equipment marketing game for every penny (for $200, would likely sign a toaster as "07 game used" ), so he sure reacts to financial incentives!

To tell the truth I don't know what's in his contract. But I know they do get different things for different milestones and the post season. The actual contract is only worth $1500 for three years...

Thanks, Brian. Any chance I could get a copy of Thome's bat orders over the years? I would greatly appreciate it. I would keep them to myself of course. Email me if you would. Thanks,Roger:D

well he hit it finally. Couldn't tell what he was swinging from the camera shot I had though. Hopefully he hit it using your stuff.

hes a member of the elite 500 club now. congrats manny.

I think its debatable how "elite" 500 HR's are in this generation. I am fairly sure that with the new generation of players coming up 600 may be the benchmark in the near future.

I'm pretty sure it was a SSK.

He used an M9 twice on 5/30 and popped up in both at bats. I think he would have hit that pitch out with a wiffle ball bat, that thing was jacked.

Yeah on Friday he went to the plate 4 times with ours and got only one hit so he switched back to the SSK...oh well, win some lose some;)

I'm just glad we finally figured out what he was looking for.

if you get 500 without roids, like manny, thats pretty elite. there some on the 600, 700 club with roids accusation so you cant just go by the numbers of hr. i wish the roids debate would just go away.

Oh I completely agree with you on that I wish the roids debate would disappear myself. I wasn't really referring to roids in my comment I just meant that with players today playing longer and the average HR totals up due to better conditioning I think that 500 HR's, while still a great accomplishment, will not be a benchmark for the HoF in the future.

The proud owner of the HR #500 bat-Julio Lugo

"And Julio Lugo (http://news.bostonherald.com/search/?keyword=Julio+Lugo&searchSite=recent) [stats (http://scores.heraldinteractive.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=bostonherald&page=mlb/teams/005/players.aspx?id=5668,pos=2B,team=005)] would be the sole person to declare himself the proud owner of the bat which Ramirez promised he would give his teammate upon becoming the 24th member of the 500-homer club."

Congrats to Manny on hitting his 500th & 501st. Mannys the best right handed hitter in the game!

Manny used a SSK to hit the 500th:

Here's the 500th HR ball that was given back to Manny and will be auctioned for charity. Notice the M above the MLB logo.
