Hi everyone,

Does anyone have an opinion as to the authenticity of the Bagwell black alternate 2000 gamer on the current Grey Flannel auction? I can't really see any evidence of actual game use from the pictures provided, but then again it is a black jersey. I am waiting a response from our friends over at Grey Flannel for a more definitive description of what exact game use the jersey displays. From all the discussion of some of the discrepancies of the other jerseys in the auction right now, I am definitely looking for some more professional advice on this piece to see if it checks out.

If it does check out, then please don't bid on it - I really want it!!!:o

not sure if it matters to you but there's no way it's from 2000. the astros wore that patch in 2001. as well it doesn't have the US flag they wore on the back (over the MLB logo) after 9/11/01.

Hi Rudy,

You're absolutely correct! It may have been a mislabeling on Grey Flannel's part on the auction item description, so I don't know if that necessarily disqualifies the jersey from being authentic. But, it's a pretty big mistake considering the patch is from an easily-identifiable season. I'll raise the issue with Grey Flannel and see what they say.

Thanks!

Link, please? Don't worry - I am not in the market for this jersey. I just want to see what it looks like.

When I did a google search, I got pornographic videos. And they weren't even tasteful.

According to Chris Boyd's expertise (http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=15590&highlight=astros+black+alternate) the Astros wore black alternates in both 2000 and 2001. However, Bagwell only received one of these jerseys, so if it's legit, then it's extremely rare.

Good luck!

According to the post you sent the link for, Bagwell may have received more of these at his personal request. If this is the case then there could be 4 or 5 or more that were made for him. Not sure if that request was actually made, but I'll check with Chris Boyd and see if he has anymore details.

I have a contact here in Denver who has a great source with the Astros. I have bought several game used bats and jerseys from him. I know Chris Boyd has bought alot of items from him as well. If you are looking for Berkman, Bagwell, or Biggio items you might want to talk with him first. I know he has a great collection and is always selling items. Email me at lane_l@hotmail.com and I will get you his contact info.

Lou,

You are right! If any player on the team would have received more than one jersey, it was Bagwell or Biggio.

There is one other caviate I must through in. After 2001, when the Astros decided to go to the brick red jerseys, the team sent all the blank team-issued jerseys in all sizes to the team store for sale. I don't know how many were sold; however, I do know of one individual that purchased a majority of the jerseys in the popular player sizes (44, 46, 48, 50, 52). I have seen at least one Roy Oswalt sold from this person. I would have to personally inspect the jersey to determine if it is correctly made by the Astros.

Positive signs are the jersey is the right size (50). Bagwell wore 50 from 2000 to mid-2002, before switching to 52.

I can not conclusively say the jersey is good or bad without inspected in person and/or knowing more of the origin of the piece.

Thanks,
