What Is The History Of The Clubhouse Signatures? Who Signed For Mickey Mantle In The Early 60's. It Would Be Interesting If Someone Could Provide A Little More On This Subject.

Are you referring to ZANEBATS auction of some interesting and strange autographed cards on ebay? The Mantle below included? He also has a Clemente which he categorized as a "clubhouse" signature. The Mantle looped "M"'s on his signature weren't done then, were they? The Mantle is pretty bad even for a clubhouse.

I read that one of the Yankee players in the 60's said that some of the Yankee clubhouse employees became very good at writing the signatures for some of the players who would get tired of signing boxes of balls. I forget if the player named a specific person or persons but they were clubhouse personal , which I suppose is where the name "clubhouse signature" comes from.

Cjlong we all appreciate the info but i do believe we all knew that and it wasn't just the yankees it was a ton of baseball players from years ago. I believe the players name your trying to think of is some guy called Micky Mantle, or maybe that other guy Roger Maris, i even heard there was some guy called Casey Stengel. I believe those are some of the players you might be referring too!!!!!!!

As I recall the original question asked about the Yankees (Mantle).

Well to answer all questions it was usually the Batboy for Mantle and tons of other Baseball players.

Here is something real funny!!! last season of the minor leagues a friend of mine gave one of the teams a baseball for them to sign, the batboy did a clubhouse signature on the sweetspot for the star minor league player

So as you can see this is still practiced today even in the minors.

I own a 1960 Yankees team signed ball with Mantle deemed as clubhouse by PSA/DNA. The link below shows a very similar signature of Mantle that I have.
