Grey Flannel: 1993 Carlton Fisk jersey

my observations about this jersey:

1) existance of collar tag atypical for a game-issued/used jersey
2) lack of a poly tag atypical for a game-issued/used jersey
3) jersey bears the "diamond" memorial which was worn only in 1992.
4) on their 1992 black-alt gamers however, the sox did not wear any sleeve patches. here is the 1992 black alt gamer:

4) jersey lacks the strip tag found on 1993 white sox russell gamers:

5) on their 1993 black-alt gamers, the sox still didn't wear the patch seen on the GFC fisk. in 1993, their black-alt gamers bore the "sock" patch:

now, i'm no white sox expert which is why i'm imploring the fine folks on here for some help. to my untrained eye, this looks like a retail jersey with the wrong patch stuck on it. i'm sure that's not the case though. can anyone help explain this jersey to me?

AMI has also sold other 1992 and 1993 black-alt gamers that seem to be consistent with the info i posted above. however, GFC is "the standard of the industry" and proclaims itself to have the finest authenticators in the business so i'm sure i'm missing something here. would be very appreciative if someone could please enlighten me.

forgot to mention, the GFC fisk also has a "1992 2-color" Sox logo. 1993 saw the 3-color sox logo come into play.

Don't sell yourself short on your knowledge of Sox jerseys. You seem to find out what's wrong with some of this stuff pretty quickly.

This jersey has no business being offered as a game issued or worn jersey. What makes GF think this could be a 93 jersey? It's actually closer to a 92 jersey, but still has too many problems even for 92. The most glaring problems are the existence of the Comiskey patch, the neck tagging, lack of front tail tag and lack of polyester tag. Just by calling it a 93 jersey sets up GF for looking even worse with the incorrect layering of the tackle twill on the Sox logo, the presence of the diamond memorial patch and the lack of sox patch on the left sleeve.

Per forum rules I have sent GF an email and wait their response.

The tagging is a little different than the Bell jersey pictured earlier in this thread. This jersey does come with team letters from Rob Gallas and Jerry Reinsdorf.

Boy, Gallas sure let a lot of jerseys out under his watch. I wonder if that money went to the team's charity or Gallas.

all of the 1992 white sox gamers (home, road and alt) in my photo library have a strip tag with "92 Set 1". unfortunately i don't currently have access to my library but i'll post the pics when i get home.

i don't put a lot of faith in the gallas letters because of all of the odd jerseys i've seen them accompany.

re: the '92 fisk on ebay
aside from the odd strip-tagging, i'm not a fan of the collar tag. i'm also not a fan of the lack of a poly tag. i've also been told that fisk wore a size 50 in 1992.

there are a ton of 1991-93 fisks in the market and many of them are very odd.

although i can't see the jersey closeup, this '88 fisk may hold more promise than the '92:

I've seen one other Fisk jersey from 92 with the same neck tags and the large font on the tag. That jersey is in the MEARS database and comes with a letter from the Sox. I'm guessing it's also a Gallas letter. I personally don't like those tags, but MEARS saw something they liked in it. Here's a picture of the 92 tags I'm more comfortable with.

re: neck tags
most of us have seen rare "gamers" with them. ultimately, i don't really know what the story was with them. what i do know is that given the choice, i'd rather not have an anomaly like that at all, especially given that there are legit gamers out there, including fisks, without collar tags.
