Otis I would consider myself the biggest Strawberry fan here and I know his auto like the back of my hand and I think others here would vouch for me. Just to let you know I am not a certified expert but I am the next closet thing. I am a huge collector of Strawberry autographs, so with all that being said.

Looking at that autograph in my opinion it is not genuine, it doesn't have any characteristics of his autograph. I can send you photos of his autograph or I can tell you where to look online.

The "D" is to proper / His "D" will come to a point on the bottom when he is relaxed and when he is rushing it will almost look like a number 8 / His "S" is hardly ever actually spelled out in script and when it is it almost looks like an 8 or he will just do a regular "S"

Hope this was helpful

suave1477,

Thanks very much. I suspected it was not genuine, but only because of the seller that has listed it. I was hoping someone would be able to offer an explanation like yours.

This seller has 4 different eBay selling IDs, that I know of. I routinely see his items during my searches for the player I collect.

This guy seems to have an endless supply of autographs. Many share the same characteristics. A blue Sharpie, signed on upward angle to the right and a little undersized to allow for a lack of detail.

Appreciate your time,
Greg

Otis,
I'm with Suave on this. I'm not a "expert" but I also have some Darryl autographed items and that's not even close to his signature. The one on that SI is actually legible and you can make it out to say Darryl Strawberry. Anyone who has anything signed by Straw knows perfectly well that his autograph is not even close to being that clear and legible.

Otis as mentioned previousl Darryl will be in New Jersey from March 30 - April 2, if you are interested in something autographed by him and your in the area you might as well do it yourself in person. Unfortunately Darryl doesn't do a lot of North East Coast signings so you have to catch him when you can.

I have met him a couple of times, pretty cool guy.

Hello Trsent here is the info.

I would like to say if your going to get an autograph, this will be a great opportunity to do it. bcuzhe will not have a crowd of people on top of him. The reason why? and this is the weirdest thing. It is actually being held at a Football autographing show. So most of the people there will probably have no interest in Strawberry. Which is great gives me more time to bother him lol lol lol.

Promoter - Triumph Sports
Place - New Jersey Convention and Expo Center
97 Sunfield Ave, Edison New Jersey

Time
Friday 5pm - 8pm
Saturday noon - 6pm
Sunday noon - 4pm

Hope this helps

Any web sites with mail order instructions available? Even a phone number would be a great lead.

All I will need then is a Doc Gooden autograph to complete one of the favorite photos on my wall. Any news on him signing anywhere soon?

suave, i'm a strawberry fan too. i guess i became one after a game at yankee stadium in 1996. we waited outside the gate for the player to come out and get some autographs. a couple of players stopped and signed a few autographs, but i got nothing. so we left and were sitting in yankee stadium traffic  i look to the car next to us, and there was straw, driving his lexus! he looked at me so i held up a baseball and a pen and he waived me over. he opened the passenger window, so i leaned in and handed him 2 baseballs. he signed both perfectly!

Joel,
I'm not certain if Gooden will be a part of this given his current legal problems but Steiner is doing an 86 Mets reunion either late summer or early fall. From what I was told it will be a cocktail party deal similiar to what they did with the 86 Giants last spring and a signing will follow. I'm sure you could get your photo signed through them.

s.carter beleive me his legal problems is not stopping him from making money. As I mentioned him in a previous post, I met them both a little less then a month ago at an autograph show.

As one of the most enthusiastic Catfish autograph/Game used collectors I can say with some authority this is one of the worst efforts I've seen.

The seller of the Catfish item also lists under these eBay selling IDs. Sure seems to have quite a few signed publications. If you had a chance to get an autograph from a HOFer, wouldn't you look for something a little nicer than a beat up SI or TSN?
