Inaugural Penguins Chronicles Pittsburgh Game Worn Hockey Jersey Expo
- Saturday, February 9, 2008 -
- Pittsburgh, PA -
- DoubleTree Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh City Center -
8:30 AM 12:30 PM & 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Hi everybody,

Encounter the History. Relive the Memories. Experience the Evolution. The Pittsburgh Penguins are constructing a team for the ages and an arena for the future. With the fervor surrounding the Mellon Arena, Penguins Chronicles is proud to announce that we will be hosting the Inaugural Pittsburgh Game Worn Hockey Jersey Expo on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the DoubleTree Hotel and Suites in downtown Pittsburgh.

With the Pittsburgh Penguins hosting three games in four days from February 7-10, 2008, our Inaugural Pittsburgh Game Worn Hockey Jersey Expo will be filled with action. The Penguins will face the New York Islanders at 7:30 PM EDT on Thursday, February 7, 2008, followed by 1:00 PM EDT weekend day games on Saturday and Sunday against the Los Angeles Kings and the Philadelphia Flyers respectively.

The Latrobe Room at the DoubleTree Hotel and Suites in downtown Pittsburgh has been reserved to host our Inaugural event. The rooms 1,320 square feet will be filled with game worn jerseys from all NHL teams, WHA, and minor league teams. A special room rate of $109 will be offered for Friday, February 8th and Saturday, February 9th.

In addition, we are proud to announce that the ol' two-niner, Phil Bourque, will be our special guest at the Expo.

A key contributor to Pittsburgh back-to-back Stanley Cup championship teams in 1991 and 1992, Bourque spent parts of eight seasons in the Steel City. He also topped the 20-goal plateau as a gritty winger in 1989-90 and 1990-91. Bourque now is part of the Penguins Radio Network working alongside Hall of Fame play-by-play announcer Mike Lange during Penguins radio broadcasts. We are looking forward to hosting Phil Bourque at the Inaugural Penguins Chronicles Pittsburgh Game Worn Hockey Jersey Expo from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, February 9, 2008.

We are continuing to seek promotional and marketing outlets to make sure that the show will be well attended and new collectors will be introduced to the hobby. Updates will be posted in this thread as the Expo gets closer.

With the traffic generated by a home game at Mellon Arena, less than two blocks away from the DoubleTree, we expect the room to be buzzing with traffic throughout the day.

The Expo will be divided into two segments a morning session and an afternoon/evening session. The show will open at 8:30 AM and will close at 12:30 PM so collectors and dealers can attend the game that afternoon which starts at 1:00 PM. The show will re-open approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the game roughly 4:00 PM and will close at 8:00 PM that evening. One admission ticket will get you in to both sessions. The admission and collector/dealer table fees are as follows:

We will also have some of the most significant Pittsburgh Penguins game worn jerseys on display and for sale at the Expo. Here is a small sample of the jerseys that will be on display:

Mario Lemieuxs 1991 Stanley Cup Finals Home Jersey

- "Pittsburgh was holding a tenuous 2-1 lead late in the second period when Lemieux scored the defining goal of his career. Taking a pass from Phil Bourque in his own zone, Lemieux churned up the ice without either of his wingers. It didn't matter. He was going places only Lemieux could go. He knifed between defensemen Shawn Chambers and Neil Wilkinson after mesmerizing Chambers with the puck, then deked goaltender Jon Casey before sliding a backhander home at 15:04."

- Bob Grove, Author - Pitts burgh Penguins: The Official History of the First 30 Years -

Mario Lemieuxs 5 Goals, 5 Different Ways 1988-89 Home Jersey

- On New Years Eve 1988, Lemieux put on one of the most spectacular scoring displays in hockey history. He scored at even-strength, short-handed, on the power-play, on a penalty shot, and into an empty net as the Penguins defeated the Devils 8-6. Lemieux is the only player in NHL history to score five goals, five different ways, in the same game.

Mario Lemieuxs 1,000 Point & 400th Goal 1991-92 3-Patch Jersey

- On March 14, 1992, Mario Lemieux notched his 400th career NHL goal with a second period power-play tally as the Penguins played at fabled Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Just 10 days later, on March 24, 1992, Le Magnifique became the second fastest (513 games) and 36th player at the time to reach the 1,000th career point milestone in the NHL.

Mario Lemieuxs 50th Goal in 50 Games 1995-96 Alternate Jersey

- Super Mario notched his 50th goal in his 50th game of the season on February 23, 1996 vs. Hartford, accomplishing the feat for the third time personally and the only the 11th time in NHL history. Jaromir Jagr also scored his 50th goal the same night, marking only the second time in NHL history that two players on the same team had reached the milestone in the same game.

Joe Tomon will also be bringing an assortment of vintage Pittsburgh Penguins jerseys including Les Binkley's 1967-68 1st year Road jersey, Binkley's Circle Crest jersey - the style that the Penguins Winter Classic jerseys were modeled after - and some other Hall of Fame caliber Penguins jerseys.

Lelands and Mike Heffner will also have some fantastic game worn jerseys from other teams in the National Hockey League and other professional hockey leagues:

Steve Yzerman Detroit Red Wings
Ron Francis Hartford Whalers
Bryan Trottier New York Islanders
Vintage NHL All-Star

...and many more.

Lelands will also be accepting consignments for our May 2008 Catalog Auction.
