1980 George Brett jersey

Does anyone have info on any 1980 Kansas City Royals gamers?? I have this Brett gamer that I have all the confidence in the world with respect to its authenticity. But, I havent been able to verify any other gamers from that year.....Any help.!

You might not want to hear this, but MEARS has a 80 home Brett in their list of jerseys that was considered not gradable. The reason being that Ken Brett played on the 1980 Royals also and the back of George's jerseys should say G BRETT in 1980.

One other thing in your favor; I checked Getty and they show pictures of Brett in 1980 with BRETT on back and G BRETT on back. I've also heard that the dates of Getty photos are not always correct. Good luck.

ken brett was acquired by the royals on aug 11, 1980. he only appeared in 8 games for them in 1980. if you look at the 1980 world series, george brett wears a jersey with "g. brett" on the back. however, photos showing george brett prior to ken brett's arrival showing him wearing a jersey with just "brett" on the back.

personally, if i was looking for a 1980 royals gamer i would prefer a 1978-1985 style wilson tag. juan's jersey shows a 1974-1977 style tag. but maybe it's no big deal as it could've just been a carryover?

I appreciate all of your comments...I realize that Ken Brett was also on that team but given the nice use, legit tagging and NO number changes on this jersey I am really comfortable with the authenticity. I have several taggings from 1980 that were submitted by Rob Steimnets and they seem to be on the money. I will eventually try and get it authenticated for insurance purposes. Thanks for all your help.

There is another 1980 Brett jersey up on ebay right now with the proper style wilson tag and the 80 swatch in the tail instead of the neck and without a set designation:
