VA currently has a "2002 Peyton Manning game-used jersey". it says it comes with a Colts letter and lampson has given it an incredible 9.5 on the lampson-o-meter

this jersey was on ebay for months without any bids. the colts letter is generic and doesn't even identify any specific player. anyway, here is an image of peyton manning in every single game in 2002. my eyes may be a little rusty but i can't see the game where he's wearing short sleeves as seen in VA's auction. again, i'm not in any way implying VA's jersey is questionable. does anyone see manning wearing a jersey with short sleeves in the photos below?

thanks in advance,

Rudy,

I agree with your sentiments...I've contacted Steve at Vintage Authentics and I'm awaiting a response on my concerns, which are obviously the sleeves, the nameplate font and the COA....if and when a response is received, I will post.....but personally, I WOULD NOT TOUCH THIS!

I suppose that "8,000 plus uniform related photo library" that Lampson constantly thumps his chest as owning isn't quite extensive enough....

I wouldn't touch it either. The sleeves are, once again, a bit short.

Nice to see the editorializing over what makes Manning a HOF candidate rather than an explanation of how the hell this passes muster. But then what do I know?

It is impossible to operate a legit auction house for game worns items and NOT know Manning wears and has always worn long sleeves. The highest demand/visibility player over the past few years. A no-brainer.

IF you really care about offering authentic items rather than just moving garbage for profit.

C'mon FBI, wake up.

here is the original ebay auction for the VA manning jersey:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110176572495

looks like it eventually sold to "nocopycats":

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110186730283

here is the thread that ensued about it:

http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=5852

howard wolf recently started an interesting thread asking if ignoring indisputable issues constitutes fraud.

unless i'm missing something, the photos in this thread are indisputable proof that manning didn't wear a short-sleeved blue jersey in 2002 in a game. (a charity appearance or car dealership opening is another matter).

i can't see anything that ties that colts letter to this specific jersey or even any specific jersey from any player. perhaps i'm missing some hidden unique id though. if i'm not mistaken, then why place much faith in such an incredibly generic, non-descript letter that could easily have come from another item?

i remember this jersey from ebay very well, mainly because of the atypical nob which i could not find in a single photo of manning. yet despite the odd name and short sleeves, lampson calls it one of the finest he's ever handled.

Hello...I have not heard from Steve Jensen at VA...I contacted him via email, if time permits, I will reach out to him by phone...

It appears that VA has pulled the Peyton Manning jersey (lot # 10) from their current auction....I commend them for doing so....:)
