I was watching that auction with another GUU member and we were wondering the same thing. I hope for them he turns out to be a good player. I guess this is a great example or supply and demand.

Beck is obviously the next Dan Marino. The 26 year-old rookie looked great in his first NFL start, completing 9 of 22 passes for 109 yards.

I think $7,600.00 was quite a bargain! :)

I paid less for my 98 Marino that I got from the NFL. All I can say is, 2 guys wanted it bad. I hope the winner enjoys it. God knows I've paid too much for guys I like. It is real, which is the bottom line. I think it is is first whole game. It may be a deal in a few years.

All I can say is IF the bid's legit, some people have far more money to burn than they have common sense. Better odds in Vegas than Beck becoming a HOF'er which is what he'd have to become to justify that price.

Maybe Beck himself bought it. I would want my first NFL gamer for sure and he can afford $7K! Players have to know about these auctions.

Another Beck is up on NFL.com. I think it's from the Steelers game. Shows some good use. Will see if this one even comes close to what his other one sold for. Maybe people will pay a premium for a game worn jersey of a team that may end up 0-16. Also a sweet Jerry Porter is up from the same game.

Shows some good use. Pretty safe to say EVERY QB jersey from EVERY Dolphin game would show LOTS of "use". :D

2 years later and this looks like one of the worst buys ever.

Funny to read this old thread. First thing I notice is nobody jumped all over the guys who said that someone overpaid for that jersey.
In short, two years ago no one cried because someone espoused an opinion based on common sense.

It's interesting how this trend towards being overly "politically correct" seems to get more rampant with each passing year.

What's Beck up to these days? Warming the bench somewhere?

He hasnt started a game in two years and currently plays for the Ravens. I think he is 3rd string.

Not only hasn't he started he has not even thrown a single pass or gotten any game action other than five games in 2007. He will be 29 at the start of next year so he cannot be considered a young QB anymore and there is not much chance of him ever starting somewhere at his age. Even late bloomers like Warner and Romo were younger than that when they broke through. Right now his career line is 1 td 3 ints and 559 yards passing with a QB rating of 62. It just goes to show that one has to be careful before investing alot in young unproven players, this buyer might as well have burned his money. This is also way I do not invest more than a grand in one player.

I dunno, 2010 could be Beck's year. See below a blurb from ESPN Insider on the possible trade of John Beck. Send Beck to a powerhouse like the Cleveland Browns and maybe Air Beck takes off in that high octane offense. If Warner retires can you imagine the numbers Beck could put up?! Why, he could easily double, maybe even triple his career TD's and yardage. I'm pretty sure the Vikings have had their eye on him just in case Favre retires (again). It may be far too early to say that $7K+ was too much for a Beck Dolphins jersey. This should definitely be revisited in two more years.

Yes, this is supposed to be read in the sarcastic tone for which it was intended.

Smith, Beck both on move?

Troy Smith | Ravens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=bal) | Interested: Browns (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=cle)?

Top (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/features/rumors#TOP) Email (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/features/rumors#)

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nfl/players/65/10617.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=10617)Back in December, the Baltimore Sun (http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bal-sp.ravens23dec23002022,0,1108420.story) had word that Troy Smith (http://espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=10617) wanted a chance to be a legit NFL starter, and by our calculations, that meant he was subtly angling for a trade or a release. Ralph Cindrich, Smith's agent, then took to Twitter (http://twitter.com/RalphCindrich/status/7124549935) with this: "Ravens QB Troy Smith, Ohio State alum, native Heisman winner wants playing time. Ravens notified. Will seek trade after playoffs, SB run."

Earlier this week, Smith himself said that the Twitter trade demand originated with Cindrich, and he did not make the demand himself, but he also didn't fire Cindrich after the tweet. To us, this means he's on-board with the demand. On Wednesday, Ravens Insider (http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/blog/2010/01/harbaugh_predicts_some_outside_interest_in_backup_ qbs.html) had word from coach John Harbaugh that he expects to get trade offers for both Smith and John Beck (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=10484), and the team could pull the trigger on trading both.

Back to Cindrich's tweet. Including the bit about his days at Ohio State could mean that the agent is dropping a hint on the Cleveland Browns (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=cle) that they should bring their state's prodigal son home. Smith will turn 26 next July, and his decision-making skills will be the key to determining whether he can be a fit in czar Mike Holmgren's offense, which will presumably be of the West Coast mold.

If you were going to guess how much this would get on ebay what would you say?

Considering I know one of the big time sellers of Dolphins jerseys, I'd estimate $250 or less. I say this because older player shirts sell around $100 and this one has NFL docs.

The orange ones sold way under what I expected. but Henne's price was nuts IMO anyway.

I want the kid that mopped up the mess Week 17. Anyone know where his shirts are? Tyler Thigpen, my choice for next Starting QB (Seriously)

On Ebay everything goes dirt cheap anyway I had a Kevin Garnett UDA leather basketball and a Peyton Manning Mounted Memories minihelmet go for under $100 bucks each on their last night and 25% of the proceeds were going to the Red Cross. For a Beck jersey I would say $150 as Dolphins fans have forgot about him and Ravens fans know him as that guy with the clip board.

He plays for DC, not Baltimore.
