Lelands will be selling the Sharpie Terrell Owens used for the controversial TD football signing from a 2002 Monday Night Football game in Seattle.

Comes with an affidavit from the guy who gave him the Sharpie.

I ask again- Have we gone too far?

The reserve is $500. Any guesses on how high this baby will go?

This is a good example of the whole buying-into-the-story discussion. I say it doesn't sell. There's no way of ever knowing whether it was "the" one, affidavit or not. Personally though, I think ASI's shower shoes -- "game used" inscribed, no less -- are still the goofiest things I've seen collectors pay money for. But I collect dirty hats so who am I to judge?

If the company that owns Sharpie was PR wise, they would bid huge money on that for free media coverage, then frame it and hang it up at their corporate headquarters.

My guess on this one is that a certain online casino with the initials GP
will have this one in it's collection - along with a grilled cheese sandwich that captured the Virgin Mary. Unfortunately, this one is all about publicity. What a truly dumb item. (IMO).:)

Can anyone here blow that picture up enough to get a photo match?

All serious football collectors know TO SHOULD have used a silver paint pen on that ball. :o

Just one problem with the Virgin Mary sandwhich is that no one knows what Mary looked like. At least with a Nixon potato or the Jimmy Durante Dorito, you have pictures with which to compare.

I have no doubt that Lou Lampson has a photo or two of the Virgin Mary in that huge photo library he supposedly owns....

Why does it say "game used"?
Should it have just said "used"?

The sad thing is that there is a seat for every arse. The precedent was set many eons ago when Presidents and other big wigs would use ceremonial pens to sign documents and then give them away as gifts.

However that is different as there is bona fide and empirical support to those as most come in specially designed boxes to commemorate the special event and are historic.

Hell, I can become rich if this whole thing takes off (attempt at humor) and I can see it now, after every auto show the signing implements being auctioned off to the highest bidder with a LOA and a picture of the celeb actually using the pen or whatever.

I can see it now, specially inscribed pens by Sharpie and Bic to commemorate a scheduled signing...oops, I may have let the cat out of the bag....

...and minutes later there is a kid in the midwest reading the forum who thinks you are serious - and he is about to go into business. Keep your eyes peeled. In the land of online auctions, anything is possible. Has anyone called MEARS to see if they will grade out a bic?

Of course, I am being a little sarcastic, BUT, with the way things have been in the past few years...used water bottles, jock straps, CHEWING GUM,etc. it is only a matter of time before something like the above statement actually takes place...and some gullible fan with god intentions/little scruples buys it and puts it on his desk at the office.

Do they make display cases for protective cups?

I'm sure it won't be long and we will see some idiot trying to sell feces with DNA results supposedly extracted from a player. Yes, I think people go to far. Unfortunately to some it is all about money.:(

In the world of bizarre sports collectibles that have all SOLD at auction:

Used Busch Stadium Urinal
Used McGwire Jock Strap
Used Shower Shoes
Used Luis Gonzalez Bubble Gum
Used Joe DiMaggio Player Hair (from Haircut)
Used Jeter sanitary Socks

We can probably add to the list, but like Byergo said Sharpie Company should be bidding on the TO Sharpie for PR purposes.

Here is a story on the $10,000 Gonzo "used" chewing gum:

You don't want to know what I saw on a private tour of Barry Halper's house before the big sale of his collection. And no, it wasn't Ty Cobb's teeth (although I saw those too). Let's just say that The Mick sent Barry a gift from the hospital...

Should I put my Sharpie on eBay that AJ Pierzynski used to sign my Punch AJ t-shirt? NOT! That is crazy. I would have never thought a Sharpie.
