Hey, I have been checking out and thinking about getting a David Wright or a Jose Reyes game worn jersey I came across this in the Elite Sports marketing site. Check out the patch on the jersey. This is what the patch looks like on the retail authentics:

Now I know that the Mets used the orange patch on the 1998 Black Alt jersey but in 1999 they switched over to the black one like the one above.

Check out this one $2499 (A bit more than I can spend right now)

Look at the pictures of the shoulder patch, WTF?? This looks like an eBay fake to me.

The patch looks like the one that they use on the white jerseys except that there is not black drop shadow on the Mets name. For all the Mets experts out there did the Mets ever wear this type of patch on a jersey? Could this actually be game worn and if so from what year??

This is a strange one. I would be 100% suspicious of this one and request supporting documentation of the authenticity of the jersey and evidence of repairs, patch replacement, etc.

Here is what I know...

1. The Mets did wear the orange patch with the black jersey once - in 1998. This was the first year that the team wore a black jersey on field, and they wore the alternate home jersey only.
2. The alternate road debuted in 1999, and the Mets also introduced the black "night skyline" patch and put it on both black jerseys.
3. Currently the night skyline patch is worn on the black jerseys, and the orange bordered skyline patch is worn on both white jerseys and the road gray.

The 1998 alternate homes were done by AIS, not Majestic. Wright obviously did not play with the Mets in 1998. The patch is wrong too -- not for the lack of black drop shadow (which did not exist on the patch in 1998), but for other details like the size and shape of the Mets script logo and other details.

Again, I would question the seller. This looks dead wrong to me.

wright began playing for the mets in 2004. in 2004, the mets wore the shea 40th anniversary patch, which the ESM jersey lacks so it's not from 2004.

ESM states: "A Certificate of Authenticity issued by MEARS is included with this item". maybe ask ESM for the cert #. the patch is completely wrong.

Not good. Photo 52825331 clearly shows 3 members of the 2005 Mets wearing a black home jersey with the correct blue-bordered patch. Looks like someone put a bad item through the authentication process and managed to get it slipped through. I will contact MEARS to explain. They were very helpful earlier this week with the Gary Carter jersey...
