Hey guys I stumbled upon this site by accident and thought this is a great site where people may be able to go to find photos of Athletes

They charge 2 - 8x10's - $10

He is actually a sports photographer but he has opned up his archives to sells photos and he has his site set up similar to GettyImages.

Just thought this might be a another good place as he seems to have photos of athletes places where you may not see a lot of photos such as batting practices or spring trainings along with regular season.

Most of the photos seem to be 80's - 90's

Just as an FYI I think the prices you're quoting are for duplicate prints only. I have four 8x10's in my shopping cart and it seems to be $24 ($5 each + $4 shipping handling). Hopefully I'm wrong though. :)

Hello Oil Can Dan, you could be right I just saw it advertised as $10 for 2

No worries. That's how I read it too until I went to check out. I bought the four pictures anyway and I'll report back here on the quality, etc. Thanks for the heads up.

MLB.TV is great if you have high speed. It's only 9.95 for the rest of the playoffs and can watch any game that has been played this year. I have already photo matched 2 bats and just signed up yesterday. You can go inning by inning so you don't have to watch the whole game. Great if you have an idea on when the item you are looking for had been used. Ive been searching Getty and Icon and they really never help.

nice photo match bobby! btw, when you use the software save your captures as a *.png file instead of *.jpg.... saving with *.png will create a smaller file size (not image size) without much quality loss. and if you ever save a large *.jpg off the net, open it up in paint and simply save the file - this will reduce the file size considerably.

Everytime I screen capture MLB.tv, it stinks. Wathcing the 700k video is OK, but pausing it and taking a screen capture kind of sucks. Here's an example:

Looks like Brendan doesnt have that good of a memory lol. I guess I should have checked with Jeff first on this one! Looks like he used an X Bat in his second game on June 3rd without handle tape. Possibly added later. Well if I can get some pics from him on that game I would give 10.00 for them and I'll see if it matches up. Kind of a downer. I paid a premium for the bat with the inscription. Guess I'll have to take it to the Winter Warm Up next year and have him change the 1st to a 2nd MLB AB lol. Oh well.

Hi everyone,

I have a couple of Astros game used pinstripe jerseys I'm trying to photo match - a 2005 Biggio and a 2003 Bagwell. I've checked on Getty Images and also Wireimage, as well as a slew of other photos on Yahoo. Does any one know of any more good sites that might have a lot of photos available? I think I've narrowed the Biggio jersey to the Astros vs. Pirates series in early May 2005, but I can't find any more truly conclusive photos. The Bagwell I haven't found anything conclusive in 2003 yet. Anyway, if anyone could help me out here, it would be greatly appreciated! Also, feel free to e-mail me directly at: loumud@yahoo.com

frikativ54
03-14-2008, 06:55 PM
Try Icon Sports Media and do a general search under Bagwell. Don't do a specific date search, as they have some 2003 jersey pics mislabeled as 2004s.

http://www.iconsportsmedia.com/viewphoto.php?albumId=0&imageId=685622&source=search&page=8&searchField=ALL&searchstring=bagwell&orient=&sort=&sortorder=&numperpage=20&imagepos=141

There are a good deal more pictures on IconSportsMedia.com of Bagwell, so good luck photomatching.

loumud
03-16-2008, 07:21 PM
No luck yet. The problem is that there aren't a whole lot of 2003 photos on the professional sites of either player. There's more of the 2005 season, but unfortunately the series that I think my Biggio jersey is from only has 2 action photos that aren't conclusive. I guess I'll keep looking around, but if anyone gets any more leads on photos sites please let me know!

Nevermind about "buying images". You gotta buy the rights to the photo as well, which I just checked and the cheapest I could find is $350 :D lol....well atleast his image previews are decently sized for photomatching

Thanks Kyle. Its a great site and he's a great SI photographer,so $350 to own, outright one of his photos is arguably fair. Does he know how to take a bad photo(Henderson with the base raised to the sky,Bo Jackson cracking the bat over his knee, etc)? By the way,his 1990 photos of the SF Giants wearing vintage NY Giants jerseys has me asking, does anyone have one for sale?

Alright I know we have all posted sites here and there but thought it wouldn't hurt to start a thread for everyone to post good sites for matching. I'll start:

Has anyone paid the $75 for wire image full access, are you able to get high res pictures and download them for this without watermarks, from what I can tell you do but wondering about anyone's experience. Thanks

Yes you can download full sized images without the watermarks. I believe they come out as 800x600 images, but you can re-size the a little bigger if needed after you download them. I think the biggest I could make an image was up to 1000xXYZ before they became grainy.

They do charge you an additional fee for downloads tough. That price depends on your usage for the image.

I mostly collect Bama stuff, and just got several more Bama game used jerseys in. I currently use getty, uspresswire. What are some other sites I can use to help photomatch? I need to be able to search back at least 4-5 years. I have noticed on several of the sites they won't let me search back that far. Thanks in advance, John

hello everyone, im trying to find pictures from the cardinals / red game from august 21,2001. There are some on getty but not a pic of Mac hitting a HR, i just aquired the bat he hit the homerun with from that game. Are there any other photo sites i can look through??

Hi all, I just recently joined and really excited about everything I have been reading on here. I have been a collector for years, but only recently got into the game used aspect.

My question is regarding how to photo match. I recently purchased a game used 2008 world series hat and was wondering where some good outlets were to locate photos. I obviously have used Getty and wondering if best be is watching the actual games. The AP's site doesn't go back that far.

Any insight is appreciated and I apologize if I posted this in an incorrect form.

Thanks,
Jack

Great Info guys !!! In addition to the websites listed in the posted threads, I've been visiting the below website for the past few Months. They have been featuring our own Robert Harvell and the photo references are awesome - especially to those of us who collect vintage items.

Hi All,

I'm trying to Photomatch some older (2004) items with Getty Images, but because the players aren't so popular, it's hard to find photos.

Is there another good resource for MLB images? The MLB website only seems to have photos for this year...

Thanks,
Mark.

Hi, do any of you contact the photographers directly and any success? I am trying to photo match an item in which the press photos are too diminutive and decided to contact the photographer to see if he could shed any light. In his response he came across as surly, asking why was I requesting this information, where was this going and wasting his time. Well, excuse me sir . What divas, they charge an arm and a leg for copyright fees and can't even share a tidbit of information. Thank you and have a good day!

Feel free to shoot me an e-mail and I will give you more information.

Photographers are very protective of their work. They aren't going to spend a bunch time looking for a photomatch for some dude emailing them out of the blue.

Hi indyred, yes I agree but it's too bad some of these photographers have pedstal egos like athletes and think they are some special puppy that their works are second to none. If I was a photographer and Joe Smith sent me an e-mail, I'd be flattered that he took notice of my work and try to help him in some way. But that's just me. Have a great great day!

So who are these photographers that you are so bitter about. So we all know who not to contact.
