Hi-

I have Furrillo's H & B records from early 1941 through 4/19/1960. Let me know your specific question about orders in a certain labeling period, or a more general question. You may email me directly at Jackitout7@aol.com , but it is usually better just to post the question here so everyone may see the information.

In general, Furillo primarily used a Joe Cronin Model C117 and K55 through the 1940's, Models H4 and F98 in the early 1950's, and from mid 1954 through April, 1960 his favored model was U1. Other models he used very infrequently were M117 (1947), R12 (1948), and his Model F106 (K55 barrel and U1 handle - 1958). All bats shipped during his entire career were 35 inches in length, Weight varied between 32 ounces and 35 ounces.

Good Luck in future collecting.

Mike

Mike, thanks alot for the info. the bat that I have is from the 1950/60 labeling period and is a U1.length 35".weight is approx. 32 Oz's.Do you have the dates these were ordered??Would greatly appreciate it and thanks again. This particular bat came from a family member and I have to think that it held some significance to Carl to have kept it at his home,I can only assume that it was either used during a significant time period eg 1955 Dodgers or it was his last bat used from 1960 ?? Thanks again,Ray

Hi Ray--

Sounds like a great bat, and you are probably right that it likely held some significance to Furillo. That being said, Model U1 bats accounted for about 98% of Furillo's orders from1954 through 1960.Here is the breakdown by year during that labeling period of Model U1 bats that were 35 inches in length (all orders in fact were 35 inches):

1954- 2 orders totaling 18 bats
1955- 7 orders totaling 62 bats
1956- 9 orders totaling 80 bats
1957- 9 orders totaling 69 bats
1958- 9 orders totaling 55 bats
1959- 7 orders totaling 62 bats
1060- 2 orders totaling 42 bats

All bats were between 32 ounces and 35 ounces in weight, but remember that weight on a 40 to 50 year old bat is not too reliable as it will fluctuate depending on storage conditions. Your bat is well within those perimeters.

A few more notes about Furillo's use of U1 bats. His first order of that model was shipped on, I believe, 6/3/54 (the month is difficult to read on the bat card), and his last order of Model U1 was shipped on 4/19/60. Model U1 was also the bat sent to Furillo for use in both the 1955 and 1956 World Series -- two bats each Series. Throughout the time frame referenced above, Furillo only made 4 orders of models other than U1, and those orders totaled only 32 bats.

Good Luck in future collecting.

Mike
