American Memorabilia is selling
Lot 96: 1978 Pete Rose Game-Worn, Signed St. Patrick's Day Green Reds Jersey

Here's the AMI description

The AMI Auction description states "This size "44" green St. Patrick's Days jersey was worn by Rose in 1978. One jersey source revealed that the did indeed wear these jerseys at some point. We cannot confirm if the jersey was worn during Spring Training or during the regular season. A Rawlings "The Mark of a Pro" size tag is secured in the inner tail as is a "Set 1 1978" flag tag. A Mears Authentic hologram is affixed below the Rawlings label."

Some questions/comments here

St. Patrick's Day that year was Friday March 17th. Would they have worn a St. Patrick's Day jersey during the regular season which in 1978 began Thursday April 6th?

It states there's a "MEARS Authentic" sticker, but forgot to mention that mears graded this shirt "Not Gradable" (This info is available on mearsonline.com)

Under comments, MEARS writes "MEARS is unable to authenticate this jersey due to the following inconsistencies: 1) knit fabric and texture are not consistent with exemplars; 2) flag tag design is not consistent with exemplars; 3) tag tampering evident from stitch holes near manufacturer tag. Possible value as an autographed piece."

In it's first day at auction it has two bids and is up to $330.

According to Baseball Library...

Friday, March 17th

IN THE NEWS: For the St. Patrick's Day exhibition game, the Reds don green uniforms, rather than their traditional red, starting an annual ritual that will last a few seasons. The good luck works and the Reds beat the Yankees, 9–2. The Cardinals will be the next to follow suit.

Eric, if I remember correctly, didn't the Reds sell their game worn St. Patrick's day jerseys thought their giftshop? And, didn't those jerseys come with a LOA from the Reds?

Man, I thought that was a cool jersey when I saw it on AMI. They mentioned Mears too, so I figured it was a legit St. Patty's Day jersey used in March by Rose. But Wow! Mears tore it apart! The Fabrics wrong, the tagging has been tampered with, etc. Their final conclusion is that it's only value is the autograph on it? AMI mentions known of this. That jersey will go for good dollars and when the winner gets it and reads the Mears report they're in for a big surprise. Terrible. The almight dollar wins out again over the truth. Sad.

Greg,

I don't think they are aware but I will make them aware of MEARS conclusion.

You might want to read above Greg's post to see who initiated this discussion. For some reason AMI (and you in this thread) pretend that I do not exist.

That will not stop me from posting items that AMI and the solid 100% Authentic Team (who has no contact information) fails to research and describe properly.

It took me all of ten minutes to find my info.

Tell your friends at AMI that though they ignore my emails, I will continue to send them problems with their auctions so they don't end up selling people things that are improperly described.

Eric,

It was not my intention to try and leave you out. I was just responding to the last post in the thread. I will inform them about it and see what I can do as I have in the past.

Eric,

after reading your numerous posts concerning items in question, that you have brought to AMI's attention, I happened to find this quote

American Memorabilia has worked diligently with the FBI in a collected effort to "clean up the industry". As a result American Memorabilia is recognized as a leader and affiliate in bringing and keeping integrity in the memorabilia industry. When people buy from American Memorabilia they can buy with assurance they are purchasing the real deal!

I find it hard to believe that a company, with such integrity, has not responded to your countless e-mails?

are you sure that you have the right e-mail addresses?

Good job.....

I have been burned by Lou Lampson in the past and am glad when we band together to prevent bad items from being sold.

Many people have been burned by Lampson...Doesn't anyone care how these things get to the point of being offered in the first place?
