I've been waiting to see a thread like this. I am not an Arod fan, but I have always thought the criticism he receives is way over the top. I guess I would like to know what the critics think of "May-Rod" now. The Yankees would be nowhere near the playoffs without him. He has completely carried the team this past month or more. The MVP has to either be him or Magglio and I think you could make an attractive argument for either.

I think it the Yankees hold on and win the wild card Arod should have his 4th MVP. Ordonez is important to the Tigers but they been in it most of the season and the Yankees were not. Arod single handedly turned this team around and has the edge in RBIs and HRs. Love him or hate he is the 2007 Yankees' Straw that stirs the drink.

I'm gonna have to go with Magglio........especially if he passes or ties Arod in the RBI department.......regardless if the Tigers make it to the playoffs or not.....HR don't mean as much to me personally as does a near .360 batting average all season long and RBI's etc.......we will see.....unfortunately Arod is the big name player in a big name market..........

I would select arod for one reason...without his CONSISTENT performance throughout this entier year, the Yankees wouldn't even have a shot at the wild card. With that said, many hate arod for the following reason:

- Non factor in the postseason (especially for his talent)
- Money he makes
- How he comes off as being fake when he talks

Postseason, yes, I do agree with that. Money...I couldn't care less. We all wish we could make the money he is. His fakeness...somewhat of a turnoff when you can tell someone is being fake and talking out of their butt.

Overall, you can't argue with his numbers and his dedication to the game. I hope he wins the MVP, kicks butt in the postseason and helps the Yankees win a WS, and wins WS MVP.

The Yankees still have 6 games remaining on their schedule with Baltimore and despite the fact that the Orioles have played the Yankees tough this season, I would expect based upon recent play and the Orioles tanking that this would be at least 5 if not 6 relatively easy wins. I think the Yankees will win the wild card and make this a slam dunk ARod MVP win.

It is just scary when you look at ARod's career numbers where he is at 32 years of age. He has better numbers at 32 than many HOF players do in an entire career. If he never played another game in his entire career as of today he is a 1st ballot HOF player. If he can stay healthy and interested in the game and who couldn't if they were making over 25 million per year, he will likely smash almost every major hitting record in the next 6-8 years.

ARod currently sits at 516 homers. Depending on what Bonds does and ends up with of course, but if ARod achieves his career avg. of 44 homers per season over the next 6 years that would put him over 770 career homers and he would only be 38 years old. He is currently at 1487 RBI's and again, if he achieves his career avg. over the next 6 years that would put him over 2200 and would break Aaron's career RBI record. He is currently at 2234 career hits. If he achieves he career avg. over the next six years of 192 he would be at over 3300 career hits. Even if he dropped to 150 per year he would be at over 3100 career hits.

Obviously, as he ages like most players he most likely will experience a drop in production numbers. However, he is on pace to smash almost everything. If he played to 40 and kept up anywhere near this level of production, we are easily looking at 800 plus homers, 2400 plus RBI's, over 3600 career hits, over 2300 career runs. While many factors come into play and this is not a new revelation, he could put many of these records almost completely out of reach.

Now, for the Yankee fans out there if only some of this would translate over to the postseason.

Magglio has had a very nice season but you cannot ignore the fact that ARod has almost doubled him up on Homers, the Avg. you have to give to Mags, RBI's are almost identical, OBP is almost identical, SLG. AROD has a .667 % to Mags .594 a pretty sizeable difference there. This is just a monster season.

Since the subject came up of who should have won MVP in 1996, I couldn't help but think about Ted Williams and how many MVP Awards he should have won in his career. I don't know if anyone else has really looked at the numbers he put up in the years he won 2nd, 3rd, or 4th but it's just ridiculous. I have always heard that the media and Williams never did get along and that is the main reason why this happened. I just never realized it until a friend of mine pointed it out to me one day and I was amazed. Anyone have any comments on the subject???

Nice job and great information. Yes, it is scary what Arod can end up with if he continues to stay healthy and put up the same numbers.
