View Full Version : Lack of Board Activity

I am relatively new to game used collector arena and brand new to this site. The thing that hit me first about this board is the lack of activity. I'm wondering why there are so few collectors who visit these boards. Is it because the hobby is fairly expensive and those who collect don't have the time to spend here? Is it that the collectors tend to be older and have better things to do? I've been reading the posts over the last couple of days and I can honestly say that I have learned a ton and already received help on my jersey... without even asking for it. It seems to me that this is a fairly friendly community and I'm wondering why it is you think the boards seem dead. Is it because not enough collectors know about this place? Is it because the hobby is so competitive? The game used pieces are so rare that maybe people don't want to share with others in fear of leaning them towards what they collect? I'm just curious to see why you think there isn't a whole lot of activity here...

Over 1,800 members, 10,000 threads, and over 50,000 posts. What do you consider not much activity?

I am always impressed by how I can log on to this site at any hour during the day and always find that there are a minimum 30 other users logged on (granted, most of these 30 are reading and not posting). I always like to read the first couple of forums here but at times find that there is too much information that I have to pick & choose what I read by the topic of the messages and then let many of the others pass me by.

I agree with mwbosoxfan... I wouldn't by any means classify these boards as "dead."

I'd agree that it's an active site considering the game used community is minuscule compared to cards and autographs. And no, cards with quarter-inch swatches of paper-thin fabric don't count as game used. Although Suave hasn't been around much lately and I think he accounted for a good 1/3 of the posts around here. :)

Speaking of "dead" forums, did anyone ever post on the myhalloffame site from a few years ago? Abe, I know you were there. One of the last posts I read on that place said something like "I think I can hear crickets."

I agree. Tell your friends about this site. Although I am a year late, WELCOME to this site! There must be something you are wondering about game used collecting? Start posting and stimulate some discussion.
GOOD LUCK!

Okay, I guess I need to clarify what I mean by dead... I am also a photographer and go to DPChallenge.com a lot. They have forums over there and there are new posts by the minute. I know photography is a much bigger hobby, so, of course, there will be more people posting. I guess I just might be used to that. I hope I didn't offend by asking my question.

It just expected there to be more daily activity, but I guess obtaining a new piece isn't a daily occurrence. There is a plethora of archived posts here and more information than one could possibly read. I was just referring to the fact that the board is slow during the day. I plan on being an active member and I plan on spreading the word…

That gets my vote for non-porn site with the best porn name. :D

DPChallenge is a contest site so it would be reasonable for photogs to post every day because they want to win the contest.

Perhaps if we gave out prizes or made some sort of contest up for posting we may increase posting rates.

Just a theory.

I just spent 15 minutes on Dpchallenge. Those guys are true artists. Friggin' geniuses I tell you. The colors, the wonder, the splendor. Its just plain magical!
Now I want to know: How can I get those 15 minutes back?

Seems the board is growing. It's had to double it's members in the last year, just not enough of them post much. I love seeing the pick up threads and what people have photo-matched. Some days it's real active and you see a bunch of new threads and other days it's crickets.
What happened to the Ryan Zimmerman guy. He used to post a ton. Then he said he picked up a bunch of stuff he was looking for, now I never see him post anymore. Or the guy who used to have a huge Bonds collection and worked with him. Then Bonds had the FBI take some stuff of his. He had some interesting posts.

A few of the guys on here stopped posting. I used to love the posts by Jason the SUAVE guy. They made me feel smart. The other guy went by TRSENT. I'm glad he doesn't post here any more because he made me feel stupid. I think that was his intent. Jason, come back!!! I mean, Jason, cumm bakc!!!

This board is not as busy as the other message board I am on.But it is very educational.I believe I am lucky to be a part of 2 communities on the net. This one and www.nextleveltalk.com that strive to watch out for the little guy and educate new collectors.I have only been doing the game used part of collecting for a little over a year and have learned a lot. Thanks to everyone..

Game used bats and jerseys is a niche market and, considering that, this board gets a good amount of participation. A number of on-topic posts and discussions every day.
